:3 Fun to play.
Even though I can barely play it right now.

Serenade- A. Woodall
Kate Bateman, flute/ Richard Shaw, piano
This was a recording from my final rehearsal on Thursday before said final exam tomorrow. It’s the second piece on my program, added to round out everything length-wise and depth-wise. At only four minutes it’s short, and it’s just enough to lift the atmosphere before the rock that is Jolivet.
Since it’s a rehearsal, there are a couple odd slips here and there; once in my part, and once, rather noticeably, in the piano during the introduction, which is why you can hear Richard say, “Oh, sorry!” while he’s still playing.
As for the composer and why the piece was written, I really have nothing to say. No one can find out any information on him. He wrote this one piece for flute, and though it’s described by some of my friends as a “cheese fest” (okay… it kind of is), I think it’s beautiful when played with sincerity. That’s hopefully what I’ve managed to accomplish. But you can be the judge of that.
Chaminade Concertino (interpreted by James Galway)
Legend has it that Cécile Louise Stéphanie Chaminade was in love with a male flautist, who did not reciprocate her romantic feelings. In fact, he gets engaged to another woman. On his wedding day, Cécile showed him the score of this flute concertino with a piano accompaniment (herself a pianist, obviously with the idea of duet in mind), but he was unmoved by it and married another nevertheless.
Don’t know what I’d do without my flute… or really music in general.
Georges Bizet (arr. Fernand Le Borne): Carmen Suite (excerpt)
(flute and accordion)
Hello new flute project aka Late SWE “challenge” audition piece.
Boitz added about 2-1/2 pages to the original audition. It’s a 5-6 page piece [I think] and now I’m playing [or rather, attempting to play] 3-1/2 pages. It’s so pretty, but GAH.
I’ve got the first page down though. and most of the 3rd. And like…1/3 of the 2nd.
This will always be the best video of Emmanuel Pahud. He’s the greatest flutist of our time, (with Amy Porter of course ;) ).
ahhhhh this video makes me want to practice!!! He plays everything so perfect!
